Stumbling across this Delux Tree Hut Accommodation on my very own coast was an absolute win and ranks as my No.1 location to base myself, and my puppy when adventuring the many amazing spots on the lush West Coast. I am brand new to travelling with a puppy however having owned a dog friendly B&B for several years I can say in all fairness children are a helluva lot more ‘hard wearing’ than dogs. Thus effectively you’d think it wouldn’t be so hard to find quality dog friendly accommodations that tick both your want lists right? Well, these deluxe tee huts do just both. In fact they tick boxes I didn’t even know I needed. Firstly, location location location. Nestled in the rain forrest and surrounded by beautiful native bush and birdsong you’ll feel like you’re a million miles away from it all. The retreat has been so well designed you hardly even glimpse any of the other tree huts around you. The suites are generous in size, iI had a suite with a king and single bed, lounge and kitchenette. The large sloped ceilings featured high windows offering views straight up to the snow capped alps through the rainforest with your own private deck and out door dinning ensconced in native bush. Perfect for your pooch to pop out when needed. The furnishings, leather lounge suite, quality Warwick cushions and throws and gorgeous crisp linens made the whole room so lush. Paired with all the extras you’d expect from a 5 star hotel, plush robes, slippers, a safe and a selection of NZ products from Forrest& bird was just perfect. The wifi was seamless and hi speed and great to catch up on work on the go as well. I geeked out on the walnut and copper ceiling to floor detailing. Probably something most would never notice but these are the details that add to the luxe and make the big difference! The room was stocked with complimentary drinks, alcohol beverages and the best chocolate in the world – Whittakers! Along with a coffee machine, fabulous breakfast basket full of homemade bread, jams and condiments you can enjoy a slow morning while looking over their recommended dog walks. The stop bank is the perfect walk and dog playground. Staff and housekeeping were super helpful throughout my entire stay – arriving after 9pm my key, a map to my tree hut and a lovely welcome note were waiting for me at the bar making a late check in easy as. During my staff the staff organised a much needed massage with their onsite ‘massage mechanic’. Yes it was as good as it sounds and topped with a late check out I left floating. The retreat is just a few minutes walk to centre of Franz Josef township, you are in the middle of everything but away from it all. I originally only booked for one night but it was so damn good it took me three nights to actually leave – and I felt like i’d been gone a week! Wether you’re just passing through or want a stunning base for a few nights or more the Rainforest Retreat will not disappoint. You’ll probably never want to leave like me, this experience stole a little bit of my heart and i’m already booked to return.
