Stayed as a family in Two Bedroom Deluxe with Spa. The Deluxe accommodation seemed to be their newest offering, tucked away at back of resort so more private and in the ‘bush’ with excellent amenities, they have tried to think of everything, comfy bed, TVs in every room, new kitchen really nice staff with a generous helpful attitude. No washing machines but communal laundry at the resort. Breakfast was great, the freshly made bread exceptional. Only issue was that the internet was patchy in one of the bedrooms (furthest from reception) but the other bedroom and the lounge was fine). It was late by the time we realised and couldn’t be bothered asking them to fix. They seem to have all types of accommodation covered, hard to imagine you couldn’t find an option to suit your budget/situation. Suspect this is the best option for staying in Franz Joseph, a lot of the other motels seem to be on the main road which might be noisy and there aren’t a huge amount of accm options to choose from – the area outside FJ didn’t seen to have many options…. Note: if planning to visit the glacier, realistically you need to do a heli ride to get onto the glacier itself as it has receded so much, a few of the locals were telling us the plane ride is better, you don’t land on the glacier on the planes but their comments were you get a better view – we didn’t try so can’t personally confirm.
